Bentham Town Council is pleased to confirm that, following an overwhelmingly positive response from the recent public consultation, £50,000 of ring-fenced community funds will now be allocated to support the Bentham Playing Fields Community Hub project.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their views and participate in the consultation. The strong level of support clearly demonstrates how important this project is to the local community.

The proposed development will see the replacement of the current unsafe and unusable clubhouse at Bentham Playing Fields with a modern, accessible and low-carbon Community Hub. The existing building is no longer fit for purpose, preventing local teams from hosting fixtures, training sessions and tournaments, and limiting opportunities for wider community use.

The new hub will provide high-quality changing and welfare facilities for sports such as football, netball and tennis, while also offering a flexible indoor space for community activities including youth groups, play sessions, meetings and wellbeing events. This will create a welcoming, year-round facility that supports people of all ages, particularly young people, women and girls and older residents.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the building will feature energy-efficient construction, high insulation standards and provision for renewable energy, helping to reduce both environmental impact and long-term running costs.

The total project cost is estimated at £154,500, with funding being secured through a combination of grants, community fundraising, local contributions and in-kind support.

This funding commitment marks an important step forward in delivering a much-needed community asset for Bentham, helping strengthen local sport, wellbeing and community life for years to come.
